The Allison House Inn was built in 1843
by A.K. Allison, who was a General, commanding the wars of Indian Removal in
the 1830s. He was Speaker of the Florida House (1852), President of the
Florida Senate, and Governor of the State of Florida (1865). The only such
person to occupy the three highest offices in the Florida state government.
The original house was
built in the classic revival style with a Georgian double parlor floor plan.
In 1925, Governor Allison’s
daughter had the house raised up on tall brick piling and enclosed the lower
portion to create a “boarding house” which she and her husband operated.
Today, the Allison House Inn, is an
historic adaptation of the home’s classic appearance. Its redefined facade
bears elements of the structure’s English country style origin, with
careful attention to detailing preserves the home’s integrity and stately
elegance.
